This end table makeover uses both paint and stain. It started out as a nice enough end table, just a few dings and marks in the top. I could have just re-stained the whole thing, but I like the look of paint/stain combinations and wanted to try it out.

After sanding the top down to bare, smooth wood, I started painting everything except the flat top. I used the same creamy color I love.


The top was then stained a deep mahogany color

Then I used a damask stencil to create the design within the borders of the table top.



I used an extra glossy, heavy use polyurethane for the table top, so that it would be protected from condensation rings or any other damage. This was such a fun project! I recommend using high quality brushes to minimize visible brush strokes and imperfections.
